G. Ram Prasad’s Vinavayya Ramayya (2015) Movie Review

Chanti (Naga Anvesh) is a happy-go-lucky guy, who doesn’t get into unnecessary things. He and his group have a loads of fun and gambol in the village. He and Janaki (Krithika Kumar) daughter of village head Chowdary (Prakash Raaj) grew together. But life takes a turn around when he falls in love with Janaki. Who was already engaged to a man of his father’s choice. How did Chanti convince the girl‘s father? Will he win the heart of his Lady Love? forms the rest of storyline.
The less said about the acting skills of the lead cast, the better. Naga Anvesh son of Producer Krishna Reddy (Sindhura Puvva fame) made his debut as an actor with Vinavayya Ramayya. He look confident with his dancing skills, but he needs proper grooming and physic to survive in Tollywood. Krithika Jayakumar (Drishyam fame) was good in her traditional attire and expressive through her looks are not that great. The dubbing done by Mahathi (dubbing artist) suited Krithika’s character except for the final episodes. Prakash Raaj as Chowdary does his job with efficiency. Comedians Brahmanandam, Sapthagiri, Shakalaka Shankar, Jabardasth Seenu, Harish came up with routine comedy. Charan was adequate in his role. Chalapathi Rao, Hema, Senior Naresh and Tulasi are fine in their short roles.
The story of the film is old fashioned one and most of the sequences are not only predictable but have seen in major no. of Tollywood films earlier (Like, Yagnam, Vijetha, Padanandi Premalo Mari, Parugu, Sambaram etc). The films like this could have been better if some fresh elements were incorporated in its presentation. But what you see on screen is a series of poorly scripted scenes and cringe worthy emotional episodes. Screenplay handled by Ram Prasad lacks the much energy and strength to take you along on a memorable ride. What it manages eventually is to take on a rather uncomfortable trip that lacks any purpose. Ram Prasad tests the patience of the viewer with his flop show. There is no credible storyline and the director seems to have added commercial scenes, forced songs, fights and melodrama just to add to the films’ length. The jokes fail to evoke a laugh, the dialogues make you cringe (Nippu beetilo pedithe aaripothundi, taala meeda pedithe Kaalipothi… Aasha aakasham lo manishi nela pai nadavali), the pathetic acting adds to its woes. If you have the patience to wait till the end redits, all you would question would be on how the makers convinced the producer to invest in this silly film.
Coming to other technicalities, Music by composer Anup Rubens invokes a sense of déjà vu of his earlier works. Even background score is not upto the mark. Rasool Ellore’s photography is nothing spectacular though the songs are well choreographed and shot. Editing Prawin Pudi should have used his scissors well in the second half. Fights in the film are very routine. The production values of “Saraswathi Films” are grand.
Vinavayya Ramayya is a total waste of time, money and is excruciatingly boring. Producer Krishna Reddy is clearly goofed in giving the responsibility of directing his son’s debut film to director Ram Prasad, who doesn’t seem to cut out for the task. The first half of Vinavayya Ramayya goes with the elements of romance and forced comedy, the second half is all about over melodrama and sentiment. Overall, Vinavayya Ramayya – An amateurish effort at best, this film is unintentionally funny at times and lack much needed effervesce.
