Story: OMG is the story of Kanjibhai (Paresh Rawal), an atheist, antique shopkeeper owner (Sells God Idols). His antique store is destroyed by a peculiar Earthquake. Luckily he insured the shop, but that insurance company rejects the claims on the basis that their cover doesn’t include “Act Of God”. Driven to the edge, Kanjibhai files a case accusing God for destroying his antique store. As God has no particular Address, Kanji sends notices to God men (Mithun Chakraborthy, Siddheshwar Maharaj (Govind Namdeo) and Gopi Maiyya (Poonam Jhawer)) who claim they are in touch with GOD. Then he gets disliked by all the priest loving people in the city. One fine day, Krishna Vasudev Yadav (Akshay Kumar) pays him a surprise visit. Will Kanji be successful proving God exists? Will Kanji get back his insurance funds? Does Kanji become God believer? Forms the rest of the storyline…
Performances: Paresh Rawal gives a prima performance. He carries the entire film on his experienced shoulders. Akshay Kumar does a fine job as Bhagwan/ Krishna Vasudev Yadav. Mithun Chakraborty steals the show in the second half, his signs with wrist make you funk. Govind Namdeo is okay as Siddheshwar Maharaj. Poonam Jhawar does well in her small role. Mahesh Manjrekar is good. It’s pleasure to watch Sonakshi Sinha & Prabhu Deva dancing to Go Go Govinda track.
Technicalities: OMG adapted from a Gujarati play titled Krishan Vs Kanhaiya, which is inspired from the movie The Man Who Sued God (2001). Writer Umesh Shukla did a proficient job. Paresh Rawal witty conversations in court room are very well developed. Though movie seems steer away from the main topic in the middle. Conclusion part was very well developed from the Epics (Mahabharata, Khuran & Bible). Story, Script brings out some interesting problems like Religious Shopping Malls & Spiritual Mafia. Direction by Umesh Shukla is nicely balanced. Amar Mohile BGM is alright. Songs by (Himesh Reshammiya, Anjjan – Meet Bros, Sachin and Jigar) are OKAY. Visually “Go Go Govinda” & Lyrically “Mere Nishaan” deserve a special mention. Sethu Sriram’s cinematography is bang-up. Visual Effects could have been better. Editing is fine. Production Values are good.
Survi Verdict: OMG is not a fantastic, Mind blowing, unbelievable film; it’s a decent film with thought provoking script. Positives of OMG are Paresh Rawal, Message, Script and Dialogues. On the flip side slow Narration and Drags in between. On a whole, Oh My God is a good attempted film to watch out this weekend.
Survi Review: 3/5
