After films like Aithe and Anukokunda Oka Roju, he has carved a niche for himself in Telugu cinema, but his subsequent films like Okkadunnadu and Prayanam couldn’t set the cash registers ringing. After a long hiatus, he’s back with an action adventure film which narrates the story of a common man who goes on a treasure hunt. Sahasam is the first action adventure film in Chandrasekhar Yeleti’s filmography. While Gopichand and Taapsee play lead roles, music composer Sri is coming back after long time. Sahasam is very crucial for Gopichand, Taapsee and director Chandra Sekhar Yeleti as their previous films failed at box office. Let’s check out the review for more details.
Gautham (Gopichand), believes in Adrusta Chakram believes in some time luck will change his fate forever. Gautham works for a private ATM security guard company. One day Gautham across an old bag which has a diary written by his grandfather. Gautham decides to go there and uses Srinidhi (Taapsee). But already Sultan (Shakti Kapoor) and searching for the same treasure. What happens from there forms the rest of the story line.
Gopichand is at ease and his performance is natural. He emotes serious scenes with conviction. Taapsee looks alright in Punjabi attire. The comedy track by Ali is cheap. Suman is okay as Gopichand’s Grandfather. Shakthi Kapoor’s character is not up to the mark in as Sulthan. Rest of the characters are supportive in their respective roles.
The movie tries to match the Indiana Jones formula of high adventure crossed with a little humor. However, it falls short on so many levels. Screenplay of the film is flat, as Direction leaves a lot to be desired. There were many mistakes in the narration part. Dialogues are not up to the mark. Camera work is first class. Especially ladakh shots are superbly shot. Editing of the film is average. Re-recording is fine. Visual effects and Art work are major assets of Sahasam. Artwork is excellent. The climax lead set is exceptionally good. The production values of the film are grand.
Adventure treasure hunt type of movies are always fun to watch. The Indiana Jones and National Treasure were both fun films. Sahasam was just a not a fun an adventure movie to watch. The one liners that were supposed to be funny weren’t. The action was average and the film could have been cut short as the second half dragged longer than needed. The running time of 150 minutes felt so much longer. I didn’t really have high expectations for the film but I was expecting something better. In the end, Sahasam is only worth watching if you’re a hardcore fan of any of the two leads. If you’re not then stay away from this movie.
