Movie: Grandmaster
Direction: B Unnikrishnan
Producer: UTV
Music: Deepak Dev
Cast: Mohan Lal, Narein, Priyamani, Jagathy Sreekumar, Anoop Menon, Siddique, Roma, Mithra Kurian
Cinematography: Vinod Illampally
Grand-master is all about a middle aged divorced man who wishes to live a lonely life in our society, which is getting darker day by day. One day, he is forced to react against all the evils of our society and this story will be told in the backdrop of some serious comedy situations. Performance wise Mohanlal dominated every one as soft spoken kingpin. Playing his age character, he stands out in every frame, particularly his body language. Priyamani, Narein, Jagathy Sreekumar are fine in their roles. Cinematography by Vinod Illampally is neat. Music by Deepak Dev is good. Editing by shameer is crisp. Story is alright, Screenplay is interesting in parts. Narration is a bit on slower side. UTV debuts with Grandmaster in Malayalam. Production values are grand. Direction by B Unnikrishnan is very good. He created a very huge Build up in the initial half, but he fails to get everything according to Hype generated. But still it’s a neat investigative thriller that deserves a watch.

JOKER – Akshay Kumar’s 100th film a sci-fi comedy about Agastya (Akshay Kumar), a researcher probing the existence of aliens in the universe, who returns to his small little native village and discovers that his village has dropped off the map of India. To put it back on the world’s radar, He plans to forge alien exploration (Crop Circle stuff) n gets the world wide attention. Joker actually started as a 3D project shot in 3D, later they dropped the plan, as Ra.One and Don 2 were released in 3D. Performances are frightful. JOKER refers to a place that does not exist on the global map. Just like Joker in a pack of cards that does not belong to any color. Story of Joker is simple reminds of Peepli Live and Swadesh. Screenplay is horrible and Narration is just ridiculous. Music is okay. Cinematography by Sudeep Chatterjee and Anay Goswami is nice. Visual Effects are cheap. Chitrangada Singh’s “I want just you” is the ONLY relief you get in this HORRIBLE” JOKER”. If Possible, SHIRSH KUNDER please stop making Hellacious FILMS.
