Love has no logic, it can happen to anyone anytime…
Thikka directed by OM 3D fame Suneel Reddy, is a crass comedy. The plot is entirely based upon the story of two young lovers whose lives are changed dramatically and forever on account of sheer luck and chance. The movie is an excruciating drama with series of kidnap episodes meshing with each other. It’s confusing and boring comic drama.
Spoiltbrat Aadi (Sai Dharam Tej) works in a real estate company in Hyderabad. He falls in love with Anjali (Larissa), while returning from a private party. Thus, the two get together (why? Exactly?? Wasn’t able to figure that out.) and decide to change everything and everyone around Aadi. Like Aadi Father (Rajendra Prasad) sent to rehabilitation, childhood friend Steve (Satya) and Aadi gets to work in Anjali’s company. After 2 long years of relationship, Aadi & Anjali get separated. That’s when Steve, Aadi, Sapthagiri and father go to nearby bar for patch up party and after a night of partying, Aadi loses everyone and have to find in time to get married to Anjali. That’s it there’s nothing else, no side plots, nothing. By this I mean, turn down your dumb dial on the way in; you will just be miserable if you don’t.
Now reading the synopsis, you may feel excited to watch it, but the movie lacks the pull and passion required by the plot. A film based on farcical comedy should normally be a fast paced, extravagant fun ride for the viewer. But the current flick fails to deliver the goods as promised. The main culprit behind this is the script by Sheik Dawood, which is not able to hold the viewer at all. The sequences written are atrocious (like climax confusion kidnap comedy is dragged for 40 odd minutes) and also conceived in a very hellacious way possible. There are too many loopholes in the story which are easy to spot even while watching the movie itself.
Director Suneel Reddy, has sure got technical knowledge, but he chose a wrong script once again. But this time, it seems he got over confident about the innovative plot (reminded me of The Night Before [2015] & Hangover [2009]) and didn’t care about execution (which reminded me of Jonathan Levine‘s touch!!) on the Telugu screen.
Musically, also the movie lacks a lot. Good farcical comedy films either shouldn’t have songs at all or should have highly entertaining songs which don’t become an encumbrance in the narration. Sadly here the songs are a big obstacle in the proceedings and are not able to entertain either, not even chartbuster “Vellipoke”. However among the few good things about the movie, is the camerawork in night chase sequences and fights, which is done finely. But cameraman should have worked a bit on Flycam shots. Editing by Karthik Srinivasa is pathetic, the movie is lengthy and he could have trimmed kidnap sequences. Production values of Sri Venkateswara Movie Creations are grand.
The acting is pretty even, and I do not mean it in a very positive way. What I mean to say was that it’s all evenly bad. Sai Dharam Tej and Satya come up with okay performances. Larissa Bonesi and Mannara Chopra are wasted in inconsequential roles, while Rajendra Prasad, Sapthagiri, Raghu Babu, Fish Venkat and Ajay make their presence felt despite the terrible characterizations.
Thikka had a good idea to bring in farcical comedy to Telugu Cinema, which could have resulted in an exciting fun movie but the hapless execution takes away all the fun from the otherwise fine line. Tollywood still has a lot to achieve in this farcical comedy side. In short, with Thikka you can truly test your nerves with staleness. Even with its incredibly shortest running time of 139 minutes, it seems to have been running for hours at end.
