Jeevitha Rajasekhar’s Mahankali (2013) Movie Review

Mahankali (Rajasekhar) is a sincere police officer who is an encounter specialist and believes only in instant justice and not in feeding the criminals in jails for years in the name of trial and court hearings. He is brought onto a mission by the Home Minister Sudarshan Reddy to clean up Harshad Gang who is plotting terror across the state with ties up with militant outfits in addition to the money laundering settlements and murders. Meanwhile the home minister attach up with another Don.  It revealed to Mahankali (Rajasekhar). What Happens next? What about Madhurima? Rest of the story find on silver screen.

It’s nth time Rajasekhar portraying the role of a Police officer in a movie. The characterization of Mahankali suits the body language of Rajasekhar. He did it in his own style. But a film like Mahankali, where the story writer and director have made several crucial mistakes, hardly leaves any scope for him to perform. Madhurima has nothing to do in this film except for flashing her body and getting raped. Pradeep Rawat, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Supreet, Vinodkumar, Annapurna, Saleem Panda, Kausha, Nalini , Venu Gopal , Jeeva are okay in their roles.

Story of this film is inspired from Ab Thak Chappan & Golimaar. Screenplay adapted for this film stresses more on mass appeal and over dose of sentiment than promising narration. Direction of the film is average. Editing of the film is very bad. Not even a single dialogue is worth remembering. Fights are not interesting enough. Cinematography is average. Chinna came up with pathetic tunes in Mahankali. Music is bad and picturization of songs is even worse.

Rajasekhar is back playing what he does the best, a cop. Jeevitha Rajasekhar (director) keeps to the time tested formula- never tinker with a star’s image. First half of the film is uninteresting and second half is bad. It turns your spirits down even if you don’t expect anything out of it. Mahankali is loud, formulaic and tailor made for those who are addicted to the age old good versus evil sagas. For the rest of the world, this may not be such a stirring experience.
