“…Aaj ka pyaar kaisa,
2 minutes noodle jaisa.
Pet mein gaya aur parrr…..
FB pe paida hua,
Car mein jawaan hua,
Court mein jaake gaya marrr…
Apni kahaani saccha pyaar dikhlayegi,
Khawbon ki satt-rangi phuhar barsayegi.
Gyaan na baateinge,
Na ‘Hug’, na danteinge
Gudgudi thodi karenge….
Picture shuru, hogayi picture shuru.”
That’s how BARFI! Start off!!
Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor) is a young man-from-Darjeeling. He cannot hear or speak, but is otherwise well-adjusted: cycling around, flirting and troubling the local cops. He falls for Shruti (Ileana D’Cruz), and despite her protestations, romances her like a regular Charlie Chaplin. At the same time, Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra), the autistic daughter of a local businessman, re-enters his life.
But that’s not the end of the story, Barfi – silent by birth, with a broken heart and a mentally challenged girl alongside, a dying father, all this, along with a police chase to find the killer.
Ranbir Kapoor gets into the shoes of his character with remarkable brilliance. He gives certain credibility even to some of those over the top scenes and comes up with yet another memorable performance after Rockstar. Priyanka Chopra gives another award-winning performance as Jhilmil. Ranbir and Priyanka Chopra come up with the best performances and there are some brilliant moments in the film that would haunt you even after getting out of the theatres. Ileana makes a nice debut in Bollywood. Her character could have been developed a bit more. Saurabh Shukla is fine as an irritating police officer. Rest of the characters are adorable.
Scenes i Liked:
Priyanka Chopra locks the little finger (For Security)
Ranbir with Love Letter at Ileana’s house
Barfi throwing the Shoe in air (to mark his arrival)
Father explaining the FART range
Robbing the Bank
Anurag Basu once again proves why he is regarded as one of the finest filmmakers in the business, with a well written script and fine execution. Even then some of the twists and turns in the story gives the feeling that the maneuver are not so guileful to the extent it has been presented. The editing is a bit too gradual sometimes.
Music Director Pritam Chakraborty has outdone himself again in the album, not a single song lets you down. Lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, Ashish Pandit, Neelesh Misra and Saeed Quadri are just mesmerizing. Ravi Varma’s cinematography is fantastic; he captures every reaction and location in a perfect manner. Sham Kaushal’s action choreography go well with the mood of the film. Costume designing by Aki Narula & Shefalina has done a marvelous job (Especially with Priyanka & Ileana’s Outlook).
On the whole, Barfi! has some really nice MOMENTS, which touches your heart in a BIG WAY. A Must Watch…
