Story:

Gautam (Saif Ali Khan) is an disobedient flirt, who runs after every girl he sees. Meera (Diana Penty) is a pretty girl with desi values and attire, who comes to London from Delhi for a fresh start. Veronica (Deepika Padukone) is the spoilt bombshell who loves partying and drinking. Though different from each other, these three are perfect friends staying under one roof until friendship becomes confusing, and love becomes complicated.

Performance: Gautham character is a lighter vein one for Saif Ali Khan and he did it with extreme comfort. He has got good comedy timing and this film gave him a chance to exhibit it. Deepika Padukone was at her best in the role of a chesty-good Hearted girl. She looks pretty glamorous in this film. Diana Penty got a role of a sweet and innocent Desi girl. She looks pretty sensible in the character. Boman Irani is gratifying as Saif’s uncle. Dimple Kapadia is fine as Saif’s mother.

Story: First half of the film runs on a single string with a small curve in the interval. The second half is a triangular love story with a winning over climax. But the story of the film is predictable.

Screenplay–Dialogues–Direction: Screenplay of the film is Entertaining, but flat. Dialogues are funny and make the ride enjoyable. There are some good one-liners in the film, Saif gets the best dialogues. Direction by Homi Adajania is satisfactory. He narrated the movie in a enjoyable manner, but gets deviated in the second half.

Best Scenes:

• Saif Ali Khan introduction Flirting Girls.
• Deepika entry and with superb BGM.
• Melodrama Scenes between Deepika and Diana at Park.
• Saif and Dimple Kapadia phone conversation regarding Bahu.
• Saif dancing to “Sheela Ki Jawani” with girly dress.

Music–Cinematography: Pritam has given superb songs for this film. The songs appear impressive on the screen with visuals than listening to them in Audio Players. Especially “Daru Desi” and “Tum Hi” were impressive on screen. Even songs like “Jugini” and “Luttana” were perfectly timed. Cinematography by Anil Mehta impressive. He has choosen good locations and shots for the songs.

Other Technical Aspects: Editing by A. Sreekar Prasad is adequate, He could have trimmed lot of emotional stuff in second half… Costumes of Lead actors designed by Anaita Shroff are excellent. Production values by Cocktail Film, Eros International, and Illuminati Films are of very high standards and the film seeping richness all the way.

Survi Verdict: Movie starts off with funny Flirting episodes followed by superb chemistry between the lead actors especially in between Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. Positive points of the film are Pritam’s music, vivacious picturization of songs, Main Leads, First Half and Cinematography. On the flip side Runtime, Predictable Narration, Drags in The second Half and Thin Storyline. On a whole, Cocktail is worth a watch movie for beautifully picturized songs and Superb Chemistry between the leads…
