Joss Whedon’s The Avengers (2012) Movie Review

Story-line:

The wittiest and self-loving Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), prodigious the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), the noble Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and the idealistic Captain America (Chris Evans).  Other heroes are thrown into the mix, like Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are brought under one roof by S.H.I.E.L.D director, Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), when Thor’s evil brother Loki threatens to destroy Earth. However, to stop Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the superheroes must sort out their personal differences and work together as a team. What happens when they eventually decide to put an end to Loki’s evil desires? Watch The Avengers to know what happens next.

Performances:

All the characters performed their best in the flick especially Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo, they just out bidden the remaining cast. Hulk stands out, as he’s the strongest among all & gets the best moments. Iron Man gets the best one liners and more action scenes. Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, were okay. Movie misses the villain-ism that could sustain the Avengers. Tom Hiddleston as the conniving Loki was just okay as the master mind behind the attack. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill are decent. Rest of the cast was good.

Technical Aspects:

Jos Whedon’s  screenplay  looks a bit slow in the first half, but second half was racy and outgunned. Story by Zak Penn and Joss Whedon is very thin and similar to many super hero flicks. Direction by Jos Whedon is impressive but falls short in the first half. Joss Whedon succeeded in giving equal space and dialogues to every character. Music (Alan Silvestri) and Cinematography (Seamus Mc Garvey) were Very good. Editing is fine. The action scenes are good, though there was a lot of explosions, they impress.

The special effects are also marvelous, one of the best I have seen in a film in recent times, and they will leave you in reverence.

About 3D: Movie has decent 3D effects. Gets dimmed and stressed some times. I would prefer 2D than watching this flick in 3D.

Survi Verdict:

The first half of The Avengers is all about how super heroes get roped in by S.H.I.E.L.D. The first half is very slow and gets predictable some times. Black Widow and Hawkeye characters look a bit constrained.  Even the villain-ism was not up to the mark, master mind Loki characterization is a bit confusing and looks okay. Second half of the film builds up to an epic 30 minute battle between the outnumbered heroes and an alien army. On the whole, Marvel’s The Avengers is MARVEL-OUS stuff .

Don’t miss the extra scene included in the middle of the final credits for it will surely get you excited.
