Roy Ward Baker’s A Night to Remember (1958) Movie Review
Runtime: 123 Minutes
On April 14, 1912, just before midnight, the “unsinkable” Titanic hit an iceberg. In less than three hours, it had doused to the bottom of the sea, taking with it more than 1,500 of its 2,224 passengers. In his memorable rendering of Walter Lord’s book of the same name, the acclaimed British director Roy Ward Baker depicts with sensitiveness, reverence, and a fine sense of disaster the ship’s last hours. Featuring remarkably restrained performances, A Night to Remember is cinema’s subtlest and best dramatization of this monumental twentieth-century calamity. Being True Titanic fan I’m impressed with the way A night to remember was shot, depending on factoids and resources available at the time. Really Director worked really hard to mix all the emotions and elements of Titanic, Which was missing in Fictional James Cameroon flick. This is a competent movie version of Walter Lord’s excellent novel of the Titanic’s tragic voyage. The cast is effective. The interior sets of the ship are goodness. On the Whole, “A Night to Remember” although shot in semi documentary style, still movie runs and maintains historical accuracy of the novel on which it is based. Worth Watch movie for folks who love Reality than Fictional..
