I went to watch “Prince” Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu this Friday. It is a typical Romantic – Entertainer. Here is a review of the movie.
Story-line:
Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj), whose heart always beats for the poor, falls into the trap of a politico-underworld nexus. After a near-fatal attack on Shankar, his family shifts to the badlands of Mumbai. His son Ajay (Mahesh Babu), of course, is destined to grow up as a cop who doesn’t know the meaning of fear. Mumbai being the ideal landscape for daredevilry, director Sreenu Vaitla unleashes Ajay to crush many gangsters with awesome power and ruthless indifference. His heroics get rewarded in the form of a gigantic task. With such a cop in its ranks, who else but Ajay could be entrusted with the task of fixing underworld’s most dreaded and elusive face Nayak (Sonu Sood). Now, the cop dons the mask of an MLA to gain access to Naik’s web of deceit and debauchery. The daredevil then plots the imminent fall of the dreaded Naik gang.
TYPE 1 (Performances):
Mahesh Babu – Great acting varied his skills through out which make viewers entertained.
Samantha – Good acting. offers loads of glamour in the movie without being sexy.
Nasser, Suman – were okay in their respective roles.
Bhramanandam – is Hilarious. His SMS requests and Requests to Akkineni Nagarjuna were just well timed.
M.S. Narayana – Showreel (Spoof) to Yamadonga,Magadheera, Robo,Simha were just Fantabulous. I don’t think anyone could have overcome his skills in Spoof.
Sonu Sood, Darmavarapu Subramaniyam – Not that good. Passable.
Parvati Melton – sizzled in item Song. *BOMB*
Prakash Raj, Vennala Kishore, Kota, Shayaji and others were good.
TYPE 2 (Technical Aspects):
Story – Nothing novel. Just it tried to keep me interested till interval later was predictable. Story is inspired from many movies like Good Bye Lenin, Dhee and Ready.
Screenplay – Screenplay (by Gopi Mohan) is nice in the first half, but messed a bit in the second half. There are too many loose ends. First half dialogues were well composed.
Music – Thaman rocks again after Kandireega, Vachadu Gelichadu. Poovai song tune is stunning with excellent picturisation. Dethadi, nee Dookudu song is also a treat to hear and watch.
Cinematography – Cinematography is amazing. Chase sequences, Song sequences were captured very well. Also, Poovai Poovai & Dethadi are best of the shot songs in Dookudu.
Direction – Direction is very good for an average story.
Comedy – Comedy is covered throughout the movie. There is no separate track to test audience patience. Therefore, comedy works.
Editing is ok. Stunt sequences are adequate and they look forced. Better DI would have added more glamour to cinematography.
Survi Verdict:
Dookudu has all the best ingredients except a good script. Hard work put forth by Mahesh Babu and Thaman sort of goes waste due to bad screenplay. However, this movie is lot sensible one than many other mass masala craps which are flooding in Telugu cinema recent times. One can definitely go and watch this movie just for Mahesh’s performance and Thaman’s music. Makes for a good viewing with a family. Do not expect any thing very novel. This movie is just for time-pass and to enjoy a weekend.
Tit-Bit: Its story-line is a sort of Inspired from German Flick “Good Bye! Lenin (2003)”.
