Mosagallaku Mosagadu team has promoted the film by saying it the sequel to the Nikhil – Swathi Reddy starrer Swami Ra Ra but believe me, it’s nothing like the earlier film. This crime – drama begins with Seeta – Rama Idols being stolen from Ramalayyam, Ayodhya. These idols are pretty precious as they were made to showcase the respect towards gods. On the other hand, Local conman Krish (Sudheer Babu) starts liking innocent Brahmin Janaki (Nandini Rai), a librarian in Hyderabad Central Library. The movie goes around the idols, movie travels along with Ayodhya – Lucknow- Hyderabad upto Interval. Unknowingly, Krish gets into the matter of Idols and steals for local goon Guru (Jayaprakash). The story takes a turn around when Krish tries to run away with the costly parcel and International Smuggler Rudhra (Abhimanyu Singh) comes to Hyderabad to take care of Idols business. What happens from there forms the rest of the storyline.
Speaking about performances, Sudheer Babu handles his part well. And is pleasing with his distinctive witty conman performance. Pankaj Kesari looks fantastic as a sincere investigative officer and Abhimanyu Singh (Raktha Charitra Fame) is quite good as well, but the screenplay doesn’t offer them any chance to perform. Manchu Manoj looks good in massy beard look and cameo was sweet n short. Duvvasi Mohan, with his skill to handle humor, surprisingly takes more claps than Sapthagiri and Fish Venkat. Telugu girl Nandini Rai (Rowdy Fellow & Maaya fame) steals the show with her innocent – pretty looks and her performance is fine. Jayaprakash over acts in many sequences, but is still funny and provides few laughs in the second half. Chadhra Mohan is okay in his short role.
Unorthodox – This is the very factor that defines the core essence of Swami Ra Ra as a brand. This is what made the original such a beguiling affair and this is exactly what one expects from the sequel as well. The film kick starts with interesting Idol history and set piece of action and good locales as they start to focus on the romantic – drama movie starts getting diluted. If Swami Ra Ra was about meshing intelligence with crappy fun, the sequel Mosagallaku Mosagadu is about following the same path but the level of interesting elements are much lower than the first. As much as it has a point to conclude (Chedu chesevadu aalochinchaali … Manchi chese vaadu chesukuntu povalanthe), but it fails to make an impact on the viewer’s precisely because of muzzy script that doesn’t know where it is headed. The abrupt end that it all comes to further delivers a few more blows to the audience before calling it a day. The extended jokes towards the end are not funny enough, atlease not funny enough to relieve the entire film. Bose Nelluri (Dk Bose fame) has failed to add the kind of punch a crime thriller demands. The sub stories take away the excitement at the right places. And resemblance to many other movies makes the story more predictable. The director should have worked a bit on the screenplay as he leaves away too many loop holes. The local con men successfully believes in Sudheer’s words and run for their life, but within a second they realize even he was a conman; The investigative officer has sufficient video proof to arrest Krish but he never cares about the footage and tries to capture Rudhra before completing his deal about idols; Sudheer Babu finds the cost of the artifact from an ancient book with has an image of Rama-Seeta (seriously?)..etc.
The sound track by Kannada musician Manikanth Kadri is average, though two songs have been well shot. The Background Score is fine, and the introduction scores for Sudheer Babu & Abhimanyu Singh deserve a special mention. Cinematography by “Ummadisingu Sai Prakash” is good and the usage of locales have given a fresh feel to the film. Editing of the film is not upto the mark, he could easily cut short few forced comedy sequences in the first half. Fight choreography is all right. Production values of “Lakshmi Narasimha Entertainment” are appropriate.
We have got a crime thriller with idols. We’ve got Sudheer Babu signed up. Lets get a heroine. And tough looking actors for investigation and Don characters. But how can we make it different? Lets give the hero different job “conman” and a unrelated message to conclude things. Let’s call it a sequel to Swami Ra Ra. I just gave you the discussion that might have probably happened before making of Mosagallaku Mosagadu. The script of the sequel comes nowhere near to the original and loses its way just when things start to get interesting. Director Bose Nelluri is like perverse driver, who slams brakes when there is no need and drives in first gear, when final gear would have been ideal. In a nutshell, The movie isn’t atrocious, but then it doesn’t give you even one scene worth remembering as the original.
