Synopsis Adapted from George V. Higgins’ novel and set in New Orleans, the film stars Brad Pitt as Jackie Cogan, and a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game.

Killing them softly is directed by Andrew Dominik who made the underrated The Assassination of Jesse James. The film won raves when it premiered at Cannes for Pitt’s performance as a mob enforcer tasked with tracking down two lowlifes who robbed a mobbed up poker game.

Pitt looks amazing, the dialogue is substantive, the humor is nice, the more soiled approach to gangsters is refreshing, the story is interesting, the cast overall is accurate, the photography is just first rate. Just watch the self-evidently badass trailer below.
