Pre Mood: Remakes are right now taking over the BOLLYWOOD cinema, after successful remake of Pokiri in Bollywood, Prabu Deva is back with one of my favorite director’s SS Rajamouli flick, Vikramarkudu as Rowdy Rathore. Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha play the lead roles in the movie. Will they be able to recreate SS Rajamouli magic? Read on to find out…
Story: The local mafia of Devgarh, Bhaiji (Nasser) and his men believe that they have killed the righteous cop of the area, Vikram Singh Rathore, in full public view. Things take a turn tricky for them when news of Rathore being alive starts doing the rounds. Bhaiji sends his thugs to Mumbai where Rathore is said to be living with his daughter. Meanwhile Shiva, a small time conman, decides to leave his `profession` for his love’s (Sonakshi) sake. Things seem rosy for the two till Rathore`s daughter mistakes Shiva as her father and starts living with him. Confusion ensues further when Devgarh goons mistake Shiva for Rathore and are hell-bent on killing him.
Performance: Akshay is good as easy go lucky theif “Siva”, he failed to showcase the POWER as the powerful police officer “Vikram Rathore”. The film’s USP is the floridity of “Siva” and the Thunder of “Vikram Rathore”. Akshay tries his best to convince, but he fails to satisfy the requirement. Sonakshi Sinha, Doesn’t fail to make you humbug in spite of a loosely cockle love track. Sonakshi failed to make any impact in Rowday Rathore. Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Red Hot Kareena cameo are good. Naseer, Amit and Supreet were far from their villainous scare. Child Actress Chinki , Yashpal Sharma, Paresh Ganatara offer good support.
Technical Support: Director Prabhu Deva after successful “Wanted”, failed to recreate the same impact with Rowday Rathore. He should have concentrated more on major drawbacks Editing and Screenplay of the movie. The script is predictable and almost all turns could be guessed. But the director has somehow managed to provide entertainment despite these illogical scenes. Dialogues by Shiraz Ahmed are good, liked his one liners. Songs are okay. Dhadhang dhannd, Chintata chita chita, Preetam pyare they were good on screen. Background Score by Sandeep Chowta is fantastic. Cinematography, by Santosh Thundiyil, is neat. The fight choreography is fine.
Bright Spots: Akshay as Siva, BGM by Sandeep Chowta and One Liners by Shiraz Ahmed
Bloopers: Run Time, Dragging Drama, Villains, Engaging Script, Editing
Survi Verdict: First half of the film is boring, ends up with an decent interval bang and second half is mediocre.“Rowdy Rathore” ultimately fails to tell a decent story well. Positives of RR are Akshay’ as Siva, One Liners, BGM and Music. The main drawbacks of the film are lack of villain-ism and half-baked script. There are no emotions as well. On the whole, Rowdy Rathore is promising in parts, but spoilt by regular direction and uninteresting narration.
From the Three I have watched: Vikramarkudu > Siruthayi > Rowdy Rathore
Survi Review: 2/5
