Survi Review: 3/5

After Successful “Ghajini” A.R.Murugadoss and Suriya teams up again for Ezham Arivu (aka. 7th Sense in Telugu). The film has been generating huge waves from Day one precisely for the reason that the trio combo of Ghajini team coming together. Lets check out the review whether Murugadoss-Suriya-Harris will create their success magic or not.

7th Sense Story-line: Set in backdrops of 5th century AD, the film takes us straight to the history of Boddhidharman (Suriya), a legend from Kanchipuram, who spread the philosophy of Zen, became the guru of ‘Shaolin Temple’, a medical scientist and commenced the art of martial arts in China. What happens is that such a great history is hidden that in turn trivialized so many arts that took birth from Boddhidharman. Cut to present generation, a group of scientists including Subha (Shruthi Haasan) are into the project of recreating ‘Boddhidharman’ by the technology of ‘RECOMBINANT DNA TECHNOLOGY’ that is a method that includes the combination of DNAs from the lineage of warriors and versatile artist. Well, a circus artist Aravind (again played by Suriya), from the lineage of Boddhidharman becomes the source of evoking the legend. But soon we have an agent from China Dong Lee (Johny Tri Nguyen) arriving to start ‘Operation Red’ that will become a major disaster to India. How, Surya and Shruthi trap and kill Johny and stops the spread of the deadly virus forms the rest of the story.

7th Sense Performances:Suriya is great in 7th sense. His theatrical performance as Bodhidharma is of high standards. Shruti Hassan is quite attractive in the flick. But she needs to work on her acting skills. Johny Tri Nguyen is effective as villain. Remaining star cast was adequate.

7th Sense Technical Treasures: A.R.Murugadoss direction is adequate. He introduced and established all characters well. The screenplay should have been better. Songs by Harris Jayaraj is good, though the songs come like speed breakers to the narration of the story. Background music is very effective. Cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran is top-rate with pleasing colors.  Dialogues lack the kick. Editing by Anthony should have been better. The fight sequences are shot nicely. Production values were good.

Highlights of 7th Sense:

  • Suriya Performance
  • Cinematography
  • Harris Music
  • Screenplay in parts
  • First Half
  • Storyline
  • Message in the end

Drawbacks in 7th Sense:

  • Drags in Second half
  • Amma Song
  • Many hypnotism scenes
  • Dubbing misses the quality
  • Editing
  • Misses Some logics

Survi Verdict: First half of the film is very good with good establishment of hero’s character as Bodhidharma and nicely placed romantic/action sequences. The second half should have been better. Keeping the commercial success of 7th sense aside, this film is a neat film made with some esthetic touch. Over all, it’s an average flick from the commercial point of view. But, you may watch this film once for the engaging first half and stunning suriya’s performance.
