Loosely adapted from a true incident, NALS (Not A Love Story) revolves around the mysterious murder in the city of Mumbai. Anusha Chawla (Mahie Gill), who is struggling hard to step into the film industry. After a few months of hardship, Anusha finally gets to sign a film, but in exchange for the same, she has to push herself into a relationship with filmmaker Ashish Bhatnagar (Ajay Gehi) and incidentally, she is already in love with Robin Fernandes (Deepak Dobriyal), who plays her possessive boyfriend. As soon as Robin discovers this new development through a surprise visit to Anushka’s house. What follows next, is the consequence of an emotional saga of two lovers and an ugly incident that changed the lives of two people forever.

Deepak Dobriyal is apt that you will see only the character and not the actor. Mahie Gill is fine. Zakir Hussain played well as the investigating officer delivers a fabulous performance as the cop. Ajay Gehi is good. All the other actors have performed with ease.

Screenplay of the movie is neat, except some drags in the middle. Direction is intense. There are two sides to the orientation. The story telling in this movie takes documentary style. Cinematography is good. RGV is following tight close ups in his recent movies and even this film has roo many tight close ups Mahie Gill as respective cast. Dialogues are decent. Background music by Sandeep Chowta is impact-making. Narration of the film is slow. Editing of the film would have been better. The movie has some interesting scenes and some clich├ęd and boring episodes.

Survi Verdict:

Based on the 2008 Neeraj Grover murder case that made headlines for its brutality, Not A Love Story is, more or less, a dramatized reconstruction of the entire episode appended with a fictional culmination. First half of the movie is slow. Second half runs fast, Climax is impressive. The plus points of the film are performances , Sandeep chowta background music and RGV direction. On a whole, NALS makes an average flick for a normal movie lover and a satisfactory one for the RGV fans.

Bottom Line: Thriller in SLOW motion
