Story begins in the US where Om (Rajat kapoor) is an American citizen of Indian origin. He becomes the victim of the global recession and is compelled by his bank to pay up a huge amount to clear the loan or vacate the house. For this, he decides to come to India and sell his ancestral land. However, the story takes a turn when he gets kidnapped by a gang (sanjay, manu rishi, amit sial) who apparently are also victims of the global recession. However, what they don’t know is that even Om is on the road to bankruptcy. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Performances belong to pretty much everyone with, again, Neha Dhupia standing out slightly as the odd woman out.Rajat Kapoor plays his part brilliantly. Sanjay Mishra & Manu Rishi as gangsters were amazing, Amole Gupte deserves appreciation.Director Subash Kapoor comes out with good presentation and narrative. The dialogues were funny, the script was not very jumpy, the screenplay was apt.Editing could have been better.Cinematography (Arvind Kannabiran) was at its best.Manish Tipu background score was good and in some parts sound like Harris jayaraj’s music of Munna and Neevale Neevale.
The laughs come from sheer situational goof-ups and the screenplay with its witty one-liners — emerges as the real hero of the film. Overall, ‘Phas Gaye Re Obama’ – hilarious, no nonsense film. Honest performances, brilliant direction, great editing.Go for it.
